Ok, my final shot. AMC Pacer, 1975 Motor Trend?s Car of the Year.
It is so hard to say what WILL BE a classic. If we had that crystal ball we could go out and stock up on that car and make a mint in 15 - 20 years. However, fads, likes, and designs change so much that it is really the present that dictates what the past "classics" will be. I mean, who would have thought a 4 door 1963 Oldsmoble F-85 would be a classic? As a general rule, they are not, but I have one with 2500 miles on her (you read that correctly, no zeros were forgotten). My dad sold it to a mechanics wife right after the mechanic died (mechanic would NEVER let his wife own a new car and she wanted one). She would call us up to change the oil, inspect it, charge the battery, etc ... in short, we put ALL the miles on it. 15 years later she calls us and wants to know if we want it for $500! Tell her we will pay her more, but no, we have treated her so well and her daughter didn't want to drive 300 miles for a 15 year old car! Belts, hoses, tires are still original ... still paint on the engine. Yep, she is a classic, and have been offered a pretty penny for her, but as of yet, she is not for sale ... not until someone comes up with a high enough price.
How about a 76 50th Anniversary "Smokey and the Bandit" T/A ... oh wait, it already is .... selling at 4-5 times originaly MSRP (yea, I got one with 42,000 miles on her ... made 1800 of them).
.
I've got a flawless fully loaded 1999 3000GT (pearl white). I'm hoping it might be worth something someday, but it may not matter as my wife is emotionally attached and prolly won't sell it.![]()
My money is on Fox body Mustangs, especially the 5.0LX Notchback....That is why I have one sitting in my garage I bought 20 years ago with only 41k easy miles put on it.![]()
Didn't the movie come out in 1977 and use a 1977 TA?
I agree with that. The LX's were pretty cool.
Here is another one... Mercury Marauder.
How bout some of the mid 80's early 90's Dodge turbo stuff, 86GLHS Omni, 87GLHS Charger, Some of the Daytona Turbos, Daytona IROC R/T, Dodge Spirit R/T.
The early cars used off the shelf parts, the steering and front suspension were from the Chevette.Good responses. Sometimes a valuable car isn't necessarily the one everybody THINKS will be valuable. Fieros are a good example. Weren't they built on a Chevette platform?
That's a good one, and I think YES it does belong on the list!
How 'bout these: the mid-80's Thunderbird Turbo Coupe and the mid-70's Mercury Capri. Wonder if there's any really nice ones still around...
Actually based off the x-body cars...Cavalier.The early cars used off the shelf parts, the steering and front suspension were from the Chevette.
