Hey everyone,

I apologize in advance for this probably endlessly asked question. I have a Mercury 3 cyl 60 HP, 2 stroke oil injected carbureted outboard. I need some help regarding tuning the carbs. I have tried endlessly to try to find the "sweet spot" for smooth idling (as I believe that's the only adjustment you can make on these carbs). If it helps, my serial # is OT612370. I need to know precisely how to tune a two stroke with three carbs. I know how to do single carbs on cars, weedeaters, etc, but cannot get multiple right. The engine runs fine and doesn't stall. It idles at about 1100 rpm, but runs incredibly rough. If I turn the adjustment screws too low, it stalls out and if I turn them too high, the engine freaks out and bogs out (I'm guessing flooding?). Also, could this have anything to do with carb syncing/timing. I'm not too sure what syncing is, but I'm familiar with timing. Thanks for taking the time to read this and thanks in advance for the help!

Re: Carb Tuning

You probably need to do a complete sync and link before carb adjustment. You also need the OEM service manual if you plan on working on your own motor. Here is just a few of the pages from the manual that will at least get you through the sync and link.
