Ok, so we are in the deep freeze for a couple more months and all the boats are winterized and ice covers my favorite lake so boating is out of the question. Or maybe not. :D

I've a friend that owns lots of toys and he picked up a new (used) one a couple weeks ago and invited me to meet him at the lake to "go boating". Ok, so I'm game for about anything (once) and headed out to meet him. Got to the lake and he was unloading his "boat". Ok, not really a boat, its a two seater hovercraft but in my state they are licensed as a boat. (Don't ask me why.)

Have to say, we had a blast playing with it. Top speed is somewhere around 45 MPH (my gustimate) with two people and it floats over just about anything including open water. Gotta tell ya, when I seen us heading for the open water I was more than a little nervous wondering what happens if the engine dies. Turns out, nothing happens, it floats just fine. (Well, in calm water it does, not so certain I would want to try it in rough chop.)

I know its not for everyone but it was amazing to see the lake and shore in the winter compared to summer. Seemed completely different even when looking at familar landmarks. He bought this one for around $1,500 (used) so its a pretty cheap way to play on the "water" in the winter. I may keep my eyes open and see if I can find a cheap one for myself. Now all I need do is figur out how to mount a rod holder. ;)
