Black Gear Oil

[69 Alumacraft]

I checked the oil in my 1966 18 hp evinrude and it appeared black. The motor was sitting for years and I replaced the water pump and gear oil (no water). I ran it twice and now the gear oil is black. Any ideas?

Generally, black oil is worn out. Yours probably mixed with what remained from before the refill.
