boat and trailer weights

I am new to this site and I have a question that I hope someone out there can help me with.
I have a 1987 Skeeter StarFire boat and trailer and 150 hp Johnson motor
My problem is that the plate on the trailer giving gross and trailer weight is missing. I am purchasing another truck to tow it with and really need that information.
Also, I can get some really good deals on V-6's. Would they pull my boat??
I thank you for any information I can get.

Re: boat and trailer weights

Welcome to iboats!

Start by looking here for your specific model:
NADA guide for 1987 Skeeter boats
You will find hull weight in the listing. Add about 400# for the outboard and maybe 600# to 800# for the trailer (?). You will probably be in the vicinity of 2500#, give or take a couple of hundred. Figure 3000# for a fudge factor.

What trucks are you considering, and what are their towing capacities? I think virtually all should be able to handle the load.

scale it, with the boat and without, remember the toungue weight on the vehicle and not the trailers axles.

Go to any feed lot or quarry and ask them how much they want to weigh your truck with and without the trailer. If it's not busy they may even do it for free.

Any grain mill, moving company, metal scrap yard, or truck stop will let you use the scale.

The local landfill/recycle place will have scales as well.

+1 to chuck in WA. The owners manuals will tell what the towing capacities are for each vehicle. You can find that info often online, too, with Google, etc.

Make sure the vehicvle is equipped with the towing package. Towing package means hitch sleeve and transmission cooler (normally).

Have fun looking! ;)

You shouldn't have any trouble finding something to pull that load. I'm over 3k loaded and have have yanked all over the mid-atlantic and through the appalachians with a v6 isuzu. That same v6 pulls my 24' camper too, just not in the mountains:eek:
