mercury 85hp Trim and tilt not working

hi guys Ive got a 85 mercury blue band engine with trim and tilt. Was working fine when i moved house and pulled the boat out of garage and turn key on and hit the down button and you can hear the motor going but nothing happens. If i hit the up it makes the noise like its got to the top of its lift. I'm not sure where to go from here. Was told it might just be stuck so to tie motor down and try which i did and nothing . I have also taken the bolts out of the rams where they mounted in case they where seized i really hope someone can help as i cant use my boat and thats sad.

First thing, is to check your fluid

fluid has a lot to do with it make sure cylinders dont have air in them

thats one thing I'm not 100percent how to check etc. Not like a car and has a dip stick. i'm the dipstick trying to make it work i guess

with motor up, fill resevior up to the top. and when motor goes down it will suck in the oil. to check get a clean stick or something and stick it in fill hole.

Sorry to butt in but I am having the same problem. I just bought a bot 2hrs ago. I checked the fluid and it is full and not milkey or anything. Pump runs but nothing is moving. If not the fluid what's the next step? Mine is a 75 85hp mercury. Again sorry to butt in but figured any advice might help the op.

Let me suggest, you first do a search here on iboats. Chris1956 has explained the process many times here. If the fluids are good, you most likely need to bleed the air out. I'm assuming you guys have the older type1 4 hose units.

yep chriss 1956 has great advice i went threw same thing a few weeks ago. had to get air out of cylinders and fill oil as air went out. to a little bit but works great. look for " another tilt trim question" post by me "Rosser1" Chris talked me threw it!!
