Our big old black lab Max had to be put to sleep this morning, he was only 10 years old. Dimentia had settled in and he was forgetting how to walk, was pacing back and forth late at nite, wimpering and wining for no reason. Spent 3000.00 on all kind of tests but this morning when he fell down the stairs and couldn't get back up, he looked at me and I knew it was time. Bye max, will see you one day again. You were the best friend I had.

Condolence's to you & yours, it's hard {been there 3 times ourselves} somehow though.. we never forget them, and sooner or later another one tugs at our heart strings and away we go again, and it never gets easier...

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I've been there once. By far the hardest thing I've ever done. My son always says he's in Heaven playing ball with grandpa now. Sorry for your loss.

Very sorry to learn of your loss. At least you know you gave him 10 good years and he gave them back. Far too many never get this. Labs are wonderful people dogs and very smart. Im have no doubt he knew you cared.

The only cure is time. We got a golden retriever for my daughter's 2nd Bday and they were best friends. Lymphoma claimed him in October after 12 years. Watching my 14 yr old daughter's anguish was the hardest for me. Checked with her if she was ready for a new pup and she is developing a new best friend for a month now.
I hope the time goes by quickly for you.

Always a sad time when this happens. Time will heal. Our last Border Collie was 17 1/2 when we had to put him to sleep. Current Border Collie is 10.
Remember the good times.

I thought I was a full grown Man when I was 18, until I had to get the 17 year old family dog put down when the parents were traveling.

Sorry for your loss, the hardest thing in the world to do is put down a animal that has been with you. I take solitude knowing I made the right decision for the dog/cat.

mphy, I know the feeling and hate it I know it is the right thing to do but it is a awful feeling to have the power to make a choice like that. But when they are hurting so bad we have to do the right thing I have had a dog all my life and been lucky that they have all been great dogs. They truly are man's best friend........
