synthetic oil

I have a 1986 mer xr2 150, want to know pros and cons of using royal purple
synthetic oil. I removed my oil injection system soon after purchasing the boat new i 1986. I have heard synthetic burns cooler than standard oil but
don't know about using it in this engine.

If it's TCW-2 or better rated, it's good. Damage comes from a couple of sources.

1. Someone believes he can run a synthetic at greater than 50:1 ratio.

2. Synthetic is introduced into an engine before the rings are seated, and stops the break in process.

I run PennZoil full synth in an XR4 tightly tuned and run like I'm mad at it. Seems to work great and stinks less than dino oil.
