Just bought this 1974 glastron starflite v179 tri hull with a volvo penta motor 4 cylendar aq130 270 sterndrive. if anyone has any information on this boat i would appreciate it. i'm going to restore this boat and i have been looking all over the net for parts. there isn't too much info or pics on here of this boat. i need to fix a couple of nicks and scratches on the hull of the boat but still trying to figure out what would be the best way of fixing the hull. looks like someone slid the hull on to the beach and it scraped the bottom up plus alot of stress cracks in the gel coat on the top of the boat. can these be fixed where it won't cost me an arm and a leg? if anyone has back to back seats that are white and red please contact me. just looking to see if this boat is a good boat or a bad boat. Let me know what you think about this boat

I too just picked up 1974 Glastron to restore, I THINK mine is V178 swinger with a Ford V8 and volvo drive, I will be following your progress on the restore.
I also have a Volvo AQ130 in another boat, good little motor, the only change I made to the motor was to put an electronic ignition on it, idles nice and smooth.

Good Luck

Nice boat. It's good to see another tri hull on here. I love the dual carb thingy. Awesome. I have a link, you may have it already. http://www.classicglastron.com/74gl-v179-178starflites.html. Beautiful boat for sure. Is the floor good and solid? Any cracks in the transom. A worthwhile project for sure. You can check here on iboats for seats. They shouldn't be too expensive. Good luck and keep the pics coming.

the floor is great no rot or soft spots...the transome is solid so far i need to stick it in the lake and see if it sinks..lol well i hope it doesn't have any leaks i haven't done much else to it yet due to it's been really wet here in california with all this rain. i am looking for an electronic distributor but haven't found one yet that fits the volvo penta motor...any advice on where to find one for cheap would be great. i will be posting more pics the further along i get.

Hello,

Glad to see other are restoring such boat. I did restore mine: new paint, new seats, new dasboard and I also re-did the entire floor.

I bought this boat 30 years ago, and used it almost every year since. This was always lot of pleasure, with very little maintenance.

After completing the re-build I took it out for a long drive, and sadly the out-drive broke along with the engine that cease.

I looked into having the engine re-built but that was too expensise so I looked for parts and found.. a complete working boat of the same model!

The second boat I have is the exact same as yours, even the color match, but it need some fiberglass job and new paint. Since my first boat looks good I am considering switching the engine.
I will also try to find out what is the problem with the first engine when ever I find the time. So I may end-up with either 2 working boats or only with one, but with lots of spare parts.

So if you believe the engine is good on yours, and you are restoring yourself (less $$) that is certainly a good project.

Thanks

Anychance you can post a bunch of pics of all around your engine, Specifically all your cooling lines, Im trying to figure out a more factory way to do mine since someone made it work the way they though it was suppose to. Thanks I appreciate it. Also rear of engine if you could? Hope its not too much to ask.
