Garmin 198S "Data Card" Question

I have a 10-year-old GPS/Sounder on my boat. What type of blank data card do I need to buy to download and apply software updates, buil;d route and waypoint libraries, etc. Is it any regular old Secure Digital card and card reader I need, or do I need to buy something Garmin-specific?

I'm kind of a dinosaur where this stuff is concerned

An SD card and card reader is all you need...

My money is on the 198 using the Garmin propriety data cards. It wasn?t until much later that Garmin changed over to the SD format.
