1998 Evinrude 150HP good, bad

Looking at a 1998 Evinrude 150HP Ocean Pro, good motor ? I know the FICHT are not, this may be a carb motor.

Should be good, just check the essentials,
the spark plug colour, compression, spark, and it's pumping plenty of water.


Get a tick in all the boxes then you'll know.
Poke around the faq's you should find some handy info on these motors.

I have the Johnson version of that motor. 6 carbs and all. It is a good motor, real strong out of the hole.

Check the gear oil too if you can.

I'm pretty sure that if it is an Evinrude built in 1998 it is automatically a FICHT motor. The Ocean Pro series was available on both Johnsons and Evinrudeds. The Evinrudes were FICHT Ocean Pros.
