i been thinking bout my next boat. is it possible to take a 15-16 ft all aluminum jon and make it into a stick steer. i like the idea of all aluminum, i would need seat bases and controls. would a dealer be able to take a stock 16 fter and it. would a dealer do it? are there any problems i dont know of. iam looking at a 1648 or a 1650, i would even go with a 1548 or 1550. any opinions out there or am i just better off buying a package rig. also would like to keep the hp to 25 or so. aint crazy about wood in my rig

sure it is possible, just order the right kit. with the correct cables. steering on left, controls on right. i have had 3 boats with it. did them all myself.

Sounds like a good plan to me..
there are a couple advantages with stick steering:
1- does not take up valuble space of a consol on a small boat.
2-you can sit up front with good visiblity & weight distribution.

Re: stick steer mod, is it doable?

i realize it is doable my other questions. are sear bases available, the ones with a box like structure for storage? also are mounts available for the controls/ i would like a very clean job, not something i would have to tinker with. would a g3 ,or tracker, or any other dealer be willing to sell me a jon boat made to order? maybe that is what i should have asked from the get go. 15-16 ft aluminum, no wood, witha 25-30 hp 4 stroke efi. tm and lites.

I put a stick steering setup on my brother in laws 1548 eldocraft and he loves it. Also check out war eagle boats they have models that are stick steering and the layout is very practical

maybe this or this is exactly what you are looking for?

the first one says pressure treated floors and decks but it says lifetime warranty.... or maybe you could replace them with alum and not have to mess with much else

Re: stick steer mod, is it doable?

td, that is a clean looking job.i do not have the tools to do the mounts. that is exactly what i am looking for. i will probably keep looking around and talk to some dealers. where would one look for seat bases? box style with storage.the triton is a little expensive and the tracker is wood construction. i have considered these already. i have a list of requirements for this rig. aluminum, 15-16 ft. wide, welded, 25-30 hp, efi,4 stroke,tm,lites.portable gas tank. the packages out there are nice but i am thinking i can find it a little cheaper. this will be my retirement rig. thanks.oops. just saw ur link to the mount. can u use that mount for ur engine controls?.maybe i will just buy the boat and motor.seat boxes cant be that hard to find.

you could build the seat pedestals & countrol mounts from 3/4" treated plywood-use galnavized or aluminum L shaped- backing plates for a pro looking job-either paint or carpet- looks pretty straight forward and simple.
just my $.02

you can use the mount for controls and steering. i built mine as i wanted the switches in it.

i just mounted my seats to the existing bench seats. iboats store offers seats, swivels, mounts.

attached is a pic of a boat that can be bought here in the tulsa area for about $150 or maybe less. boat needs lots of work as is but would be a great parts donor for your suggested project.

or you could do like my brother used to do- buy 2 or 3 of these $150 rigs- combine the best trl- motor-hull .ect in to one rig that worked half the time-LOL- the fish don't care how much $$$ you spend on a boat!
