Any TV now will have a digital tuner. The whole reason for the switch-over was because there are no longer tv's made with an analog tuner.

the changeover had nothing to do at all with tv's not having analog tuners.... in fact most still do......explanation

check with rv stuff.... might find something to suit you for less than marine stuff..... one problem though is that most tv antennaes are directional and boats move at anchhor.... with a strong signal though this should not be a big issue

Not all TVs come with ATSC(high Def) tuners yet althouigh most of the newer models do. I was just looking at a 46" model the other day that only had analog.

Your conspiracy theory is just plain BS..

I didn't say they had highdef tuners, I said they have digital tuners...

Same thing. All digital broadcasts are highdef capable and there are no digital tuners that cannot pick up highdef.

The reason the government made the switch over to digital TV only and got rid of the analog channels is so that extra bandwidth is made available for other uses.

No it's not the same thing... Being digital does NOT mean it's HD. Also, HD has been broadcast by locals who chose to do so for years, so obviously it doesn't have to be digital just because it's HD..

Google is your friend, call him up..

I'd also like to see this 46" you were looking at "the other day" that did not have a digital tuner... I'm callin BS on that until there's proof..

Totally agree, The TV broadcaster has to broadcast digital but it can be a lower definition such as 480p. My point was same exact tuner is used for all resolutions be it 1080 or 480. Not sure why every exchange with you becomes a pissing match...and its not just with me. Its with many others.

As far as googling is concerned, I have desiged many types of QAM receivers so I know more than a little about about the transmission of digital signals.

I will find the model I saw and post it. It was on sale at WalMart.

The first quoted post of yours is why I posted what I did.. I'm not making it a pissing match, your just wrong in what you said. Someone will come along and read what you posted, take it for gospel, and then blame this board when they find it's not true..
I'm not trying to call anyone out, I just think that incorrect information needs to be corrected.
Now what you say about the resolution is factually true. MY point was, being ATSC does not mean it's HD, and vice versa...

As far as googling is concerned, I have desiged many types of QAM receivers so I know more than a little about about the transmission of digital signals.

I can't say rather you designed them or not. My first instinct with people on the net is to believe ~10% of what they say. That's a learned action and not implying that you are lying or not an engineer or anything so don't take offense. Maybe you did see one on sale, but I'd just highly doubt it as anything LCD is almost guaranteed to be digital, and they sold out all the "crap-stock" ntsc tv's around the time of the transition. Maybe someone found a buried NTSC tv. It's just not likely.

I'm with the tile man on this one :)

So our pissing match is over????

your bummin' me out... :D

Just Kiddin...

<on edit>

And to the OP, if he cares... Any TV antenna will pick up HD broadcasts. Don't go looking for the expensive "HDTV Antenna". It's hype. If the antenna picks up the signal, it doesn't care what resolution it's in...

what?! if its HD, then its broadcast digitally. and if has a digital tuner, it can receive high def broadcast also. so yes it is the same thing. a digital tuner in a tv gives you over the air Standard definition, and High definition, they are not seperate. it just depends on what the station sends out. and yes almost all tvs now have atsc tuners.
