Hi,

I picked up an parts motor today. I believe it's 55 or 56 35HP Johnson...can anyone confirm?

Serial number 1393862.

Thanks,

Thanks Zephyr...you're fast!

Is the powerhead the same as the 35...just different carbs? Or is it a smaller piston with a different crank?

The 30 is 35.7 cubes and the 35 is 40.5 cubes. The 35 also has the compression relief heads, where as the 30's don't. But, a 35 powerhead will bolt on where a 30 was, as long as it does not have a thermostat set up. The carbs may possibly be different but not by much. Then again I think the 30 may have the sediment bowl integrated with the carb and the 35 does not, so I'm not positive on the carb thing.

So...different pistons and possibly the same crank?

I am not sure about the crank. You might ask F_R about that one, unless you pull it down and match them up yourself. If the journals all measure out the same, then I can't see why they wouldn't interchange.

I'm mostly interested in the motor for things besides the powerhead. But if the crank is the same, I might consider keeping the powerhead. Otherwise, I'll probably sell it off to someone in need. I'm curious about its compression...it might be good!
