Covered dry dock versus dry stack storage

I'm looking at two marinas, one has dry stack storage and the other has dry storage under a metal roof with open sides. (It's a big roof with probably 40-50 boats under it). I understand the pros and cons of dry stack storage, but I can save a fair amount annually by the dry parked storage. Anyone have any good or bad experiences with this kind of dry storage, or have any recommendations regarding it? Thanks.

A follow-up question: I just got off the phone with the marina with the dry on-trailer storage, and they said to be careful with dry stack storage because the forklift operators are not always careful and can ding the boat hull. Anyone had any experience with this? (They weren't dirty rushing the dry stack marina, but simply saying it was something to consider and get more info on).

The covered on-trailer storage would suit me better because it's cheaper and would be more convenient to get to your boat to mess with it, and I'm always messing with my boat! And you don't have to worry about some nut-case with the folk lift dropping or damaging your boat/motor! Good Luck!

The only additional thing to think about is dry stack inside is usually climate controlled so if you go with the outside under cover storage you will need to think about the added cost of winterizing.

In Atlanta I'd go with the outside covered; weather is really not an issue. you might keep it covered in the off season to keep it clean and for a little security. Look into convenience; the dry stacks can have limited hours and get busy at peak times. Are you near a resort area that will be packed on the holidays, when you would be using yours? Or are you a week-day, avoid the crowds user?

When one boat in a dry stack facility catches fire, it's spectacular! Unless you had a boat in there, of course.

However, one advantage of dry stack is better security for your toys on the boat, and they often offer service on the boat as part of the store/retrieve/launch process.
