I should have my deck/floor project finished within a couple weeks. Ive decided against carpet, but now i have to decide on which non skid product i'm going to use. Ive read posts on here about decent results with pick-up truck liners such as rhinocoat. Another one is Durabak which seems like it may hold up well. My other option is top-side coat epoxy paints from west marine. It has non skid additives that you can mix in. i want something that looks professional which will hold up permenantly. Can someone point me in the right direction. thanks!

I used the west marine brand non-skid white paint. I have a feeling I screwed up somewhere though because in some places its like it never completely dried. But other areas including high traffic places on the deck have held up well. It's not too hard on bare feet and definitely grippy

F14: How long ago did you apply it? i heard the temp has to be at least 60deg or it wont dry/ bond correctly.
Stylesabu: do you have any pics? what color did you choose?

It was last winter in the heated section of our barn...temperature might be the reason because its usually kept around 50 but I've bumped it a little when using epoxy. That may explain why some of the paint's good and some isn't

Re: advice needed on-skid deck products

ok...well i'm also wondering.. is there any need to coat the top of my new floor with resin/glass. The way i look at it is the paint will completely seal it. Preventing any water from soaking in. I'm also figuring paint will bond better to pure wood rather than bonding to resin. The last thing i want is my non-skid flooring peeling up. what do you think?

Bear, your boat came out great! good work..

is it a hassle to clean down the durabak flooring?
i
ive heard someone say at west marine that debris gets between non-skid particles and is difficult to wash it..
have you has any problems with it all so far?

does anyone know if i should still glass over the top of my deck?? or just apply the non-skid directly to the wood? in my experiences with epoxy, it doesnt seem like anything bonds/adheres to it very well.
thanks!

Re: advice needed on-skid deck products

Keeping the deck surface clean will require effort with a more textured surface...there is just more surface area for dirt to bind to around every nodule of whatever granular surface there is for traction.

I'm going Durabak for the time being as the stuff looks to be indestructable when it's applied and cured correctly. I like the fact that they can drag anchors across the stuff and it holds up.

I'll know more in about a month when mine is done.

I did see a big roll of garage flooring today at Costco. 17 ft by 7.5 feet long. It's got a diamond pattern to it and it's some sort of crazy rubber. The first thing that popped in my head was it would make a good non skid flooring for the boat :) http://www.truckinweb.com/tech/0907tr_g_floor_garage_floor_covering_installation/index.html

I used rubber diamond plate flooring on my project. It came out really good.

Re: advice needed on-skid deck products

I did not buy it. The company I work for uses it. It was a 6x10 piece that was left over on a roll. I did not want carpet so I thought it would be a good alternative. I know its sold on the internet and I have even seen it sold on e-bay. As far as glue, I just used 3M super spray adhesive on the floor and then a coat on the back side of the flooring. It seems to hold well but could be pulled up fairly easy if ever needed.
