1989 20 HP Tiller Arm Disassembly

I bought the Ken Cook Manual on the motor and one thing omitted is the disassembly, overhaul and reassembly of the tiller arm assembly. I want to replace the twist grip and trouble shoot the kill switch. I have the replacement parts but am not sure how to begin disassembly. I've messed around with the nut adjustment on the end and learned it is my idle adjustment but thats as far as i have gotten.

Any advise on this?

Used the diagram to order new parts, gives ya a general idea but I have a reputation for breaking things when there are little secrets that you should know. getting it off of the motor looks easy, not sure re the sub components.

Someone out here has to have been there before..........

On the twist grip toward the motor, there are two little buttons on each side of the twist grip. Push them in at the same time and slide the grip forward. Turn the idle setup knob turning it into the grip until you can remove the grip. (the idle set up knob is part of the stop button." The rest is self explanatory. Good luck

Thanks, that makes sense looking at the replacement parts. I also ordered a new kill switch assembly from a ebayer in canada. $60. Hopefully disassemble today.

Disassembled the tiller arm this weekend. Very simple. Waiting to receive the new kill switch. I need to figure out a way to lubricate the throttle cable but other than that all is in good shape. Will make sure everything is proberly lubricated at reassembly.
