I was bridge fishing in St Pete years ago, it was a good 15-20ft drop to the water..I was catching alot of fish and all that action grabbed the attention of the pelicans in the area. As I caught a fish I would have to reel like hell after the fish broke water to get it up to me..Well one time I didnt reel fast enough and that pelican took off with my rig and my fish,He was just holding my fish in his mouth and every time he would make a move to try and swallow he would lose some of his grip..Ive never had a fishing pole bent in half like this was..I swore it was going to snap, finally after 2 or 3 attempts for him to swallow the fish he let it go. Has to be a heck of a sight for the people driving by.

I sent that link to my Son cause I know he Kayaks. He just sent me this reply back:

That is crazy.* I was actually kayaking one time and throwing chips to a goose in the water.* He would not stop chasing me and eventually started banging on my boat with his beak.* I had to dump the chips and paddle as fast as I could to shore.* They are mean!

It's funny until it happens to you. Never had a run in with a goose, but many years ago, as a teen, my brother and I were attacked by a pair of swans. We were in an old grumman canoe, and must have gotten too close to thier young. We never saw the young until we were trying to right the canoe.

Swans hurt and are mean. Strong wings and a head like a club. We got lumped up good. Must be the same with geese.

I agree - Swans are worse. They can be very vicious and dangerous. The worst part of it to me, is that if you are attacked, you feel like you can't bean them with a paddle or something, because someone will surely take you to task for doing so. That said, if one was hurting a kid or something, I'd take it out in a heartbeat and deal with the "stuff" later.
