hey guys this is a 1987 mercrusier alpha one drive.. i removed the waterpump this week and in the process of prying the old one out i had the screw driver between the plastic of the pump and the (metal?) of the drive and it cracked a little bit.. not much i would say about a 1/8 of a inch deep by 1/4 in long.. i was wondering if this is going to be a problem with sealing the water pump housing.. should this be welded back? or not a problem? i know theres a bunch of gaskets for the water pump so anyone have any suggestions? attached are a few pics . not the best but hopefully you can make it out. thanks guys

That is the suction side of the pump and if not properly sealed will allow exaust gas to be sucked into the pump and create a hi speed overheat condition.

From what I can see ,there is considerable corrosion in the gasket area now but the picture quality needs inprovement. Might try photobucket.com. It`s free.

Ayuh,... I doubt it's even Weldable, being such a small thin spot...And the corrosion factor...
You might try building it up with an epoxy putty...

I'm with Bond-o on that one, Marine-Tex would work better with that much corrosion. 'nutcase

JB Weld would have done a good job on that.Much stronger than regular epoxy.
As long as it seals it should be good to go....
