1984 Celebrity 225v cuddy

Thinking of buying a new to me boat, needs seats done wasnt covered in the last year so its beat up by the sun. Floor is good and cuddy is great. motor is a 260hp ib. Guy wants 2800 for it, i NADA.com it and came up with 2500. Is that pretty acurate. He dropped the price from 4000 to 2800 with some negotiation.

5.7 with a omc i think could be wrong, it could be a merc. Going to see it this week/end and make sure she turns over and is free. Guy just did 4700 worth of work and has receipts to prove it. Is there anything i should look at while looking? any major issues to find?

This isnt my first boat and having a good buddy who restores and repairs boats look at it with me

You need to find that out. You probably want to avoid an OMC. They have been obsolete for many years and parts and service are getting hard to come by.

ya my boat now has a omc and your right parts are hard as he!! to find for them. But still can be found as i have found some parts on internet auctions for my boat now. Say it has omc whats it worth? Say it has mercruiser whats it worth?

you are new here , so I will explain the kind of info we need to help you when you ask a question about your boat.... yr make and model of boat ,size of boat......... if we do not know how big a boat it is..ie.... ski boat vs. 26 cruiser... we have no idea what it is worth , or what to look for on it...

Dude look at the titel!!!! It says 1984 CELEBRITY 225V CUDDY WITH A 260 5.7 23FT
Dont know what drive it has yet will know tomorrow or saturday when i go look at it.

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,...Unfortunately, what might a been a fair deal for the barge, is Overpriced...
An OMC Stringer drive makes it worth Maybe $800...

If the guy put $4700. into it,... Don't make His mistake, Your mistake....

It has been for sale for a year now in a remote town with around 300 people, he wants it gone so he can buy something else, guy seems to have a lot of money seeing as he has 2 other boats and some nice rides.

HEY, Welcome Abord.

I have an 85 Celebrity. 17 foot I/O, unfortunately mine is OMC. The boat seems pretty solid to me ie things like floor and stringers are good. The downside, because mine is OMC, I had to pull the outdrive to get the motor out. Rust, not because of design. Anyhow the cutout for the outdrive is the only place I've found where the wood was not protected, and it has some delamination issues. Not real serious, but one of those things to remedy before it gets worse.

As far as price, in this economy it is a buyer's market. Asking us what it's worth sight unseen is at best a shot in the dark.

well i bought it talked him down even more to $2200 and its a steal. thing looks mint fired up from sitting for almost a year and runs great, and did compression check and none of the pistons were out more than 2lbs. Needs a little work and some captains chairs but cuddy and hull are sick!!! Thanks all for your help seems like a great place to spend some time! Anyone know where i can find some pretty tall seats or ones with a bulster?

Check the iboats store. They carry dang near anything for boats. Also, try craigslist or ebay. You can find some good stuff on them sometimes.

so on the outdrive, i got it to go down and come up a little ways but cant make it come up all the way, also the forward and reverse lever wont move either way, i can push the throttle button and make it move but when i want to make the outdrive go it wont move, you can see the cables try and move but just wont budge. WTF those are the only things wrong with the boat. I have checked hydro fluid and it good and clean and up to full. anything i can check? It just stops at the same spot every time i go down then up it stops in the exact same spot

Looking forward to some pics when you get the rig. If you don't get an answer to your trim question here, post a new thread about it in the I/O repair section. Those guys are gurus. Great Lakes Skipper is also a good place to check for seats. They sell overstock/overrun stuff from many of the original boat manufactuers and have some amazing deals.

MMM......no one checked to see if it would shift and the tilt and trim worked before the purchase?
