Re: Outdrive wont go up

adults section?

As BT and Don said, Adults Only thread, it's a sticky at the top of this forum. Download the manual you need (there are a bunch of them) and do some reading and troubleshooting.

The problem might not be your remote control/shifter, could be a cable problem, sounds like you need to do some trouble shooting. Word of caution, don't go willy-nilly taking the shift cables off the transom plate as they require precise adjustments, spin one of those barrels 3-4 times and it could mess up how the drive shifts.

The switch in the picture is the shift interrupt switch.

If it were mine, I would remove the lower shift cable from the transom plate and see how the drive shifts in-out of F&R, and how the remote control works with the lower shift cable removed. ***Paying close attention to how and where the cable was oriented and the position of the barrel nut so I could get it back exactly as it was before.***

If you don't know what the lower shift cable is,,, time to do some reading...

Shift interrupt switch... Please get the names of parts correct. We have just been though a long saga in another area of the forums where people were using the wrong names for parts... wasted a lot of time.

Shouldnt matter if the engine is running or not right? I cant get the throttle selector to come out of forward now, so i cant start the boat

You shouldn't be selecting gear without the engine running (or someone turning the prop). If the dogs (in the lower gear housing) are lined up high-to-high, then you could break a cable.
