engine timing

Is there a way to tell if a outboard is timed right with out going thru all kind of steps.I have a 1973 85 evinrude

Of course. Take it to a pro who will realize there will always
be steps to a diagnosis, but that is his problem not yours.
Then again I would just hook a timing light up, open my service
manual and check my timing. But after raising 2 kids and now
1 grandchild I have to be used to long steps to do almost anything
on my poor neglected tinny. :)

thanks but i dont have a manual i need to get one but anyway u wouldn't happen to Know what the timing is suposed to be set at?

should be a sticker on the air sliencer. timing directions in the TOP SECRET FILE, 1st tread in this forum.
