My late 80's evinrude 35 hp will run like a sewing machine for days or even weeks, then at random times, usually when i need to get back to the dock i will come off of plane, and the sucker will die...and not start back up unless i play around emminsly with the mixture dial on top of the carburator. Then it will die all the time coming off plane, runs like crap idling, runs phenomenally at WOT dies coming off plane, once started it will idle but it always dies coming off plane...full tank of gas, 50.1 ratio on fuel/oil, new fuel clean filter. Some very teenie tiny fuel leaks that im sorting out on the primer on top of carb...

Please help me...

Sounds to me like you need a good carb cleaning and a kit installed. Maybe the float needle could be sticking sometimes.

Ive got my carb all rebuilt this afternoon, wasnt hard at all...the fuel lines to this motor were totally mickey moused together...can you give me some pictures of a 35hp fuel system, only at the motor level...ie from pump to carb, choke to what i would appreciate it...

You're basically running a test for a lean condition...WOT then immediately to idle. If the motor dies or pops...then you may be too lean. Richen the low speed a 1/16 then try again. A good carb clean (as you have done) is the first step however.

Im desperately trying to figure out how the fuel lines are run on this particular motor...

big line going from gas tank to motor-then from inside cowl up to fuel filter area, then down along back of motor to bottom of carb.

What i found, plugged fuel line with a screw from the top of engine block near the fuel filter, no idea where this goes.

Fuel line at the bottom front of motor behind carb was T'd into the primer, and up into the bowl of the carb, and also t'd into a reducer which ran into the primer location at the back of the carb. The actual primer line, was t'd into this as well, the very small hose coming off of the carburetor.

I have a feeling this is totally not correct, as my manual shows no feed from the bowl on the carb, just a drain plug.

I cant get it to run, it fired up real nice then died after i rebuilt the carb...all of it went together very nicely from the book, but now i cant get anything out of it whatsoever...

From reading your last post, it appears that the fuel lines are correct. A picture might help, if you can provide one. But if not:

1) on some carburetors, the main fuel line feeds into the bottom of the carburetor where the drain screw is located. On some other carburetors, there is only a drain screw there. I think yours is the former and is correct.
2) you mentioned a fuel line plugged with a screw coming from the top of the block near the fuel filter. If the hose is about the same size as the primer hose, it is likely a recirculation hose which recirculates unburned fuel mix back into the intake manifold. There should be another nipple toward the bottom of the intake manifold where it would connect to. It will not be easy to see but look around with a flashlight. If the recirculation line is not connected then you could likely have an air leak which would cause trouble.

For your motor not running now after the carburetor rebuild, it sounds like the motor is running out of fuel. You say it starts up okay but then dies. Did you set the float height correct? Also, did you remove the high speed, intermediate speed and idle jets and do a thorough cleaning in the orifices?
