What a JW-14 can bring

So, back in January, I picked up a 1958 Johnson JW-14 for $50.00 on Craigslist. I bought it as a non running motor. I took it home and spent $100.00 on parts to get it running real nice. New coils, carb kit, spark plug leads and impeller. Not bad investment to make it run good. At the first part on this month, I took it down to the coast and traded it off for a 1983 Johnson 7.5hp, straight across. All I had to do with the 7.5 was change the oil in the lower unit, replace the pull rope and two little rollers in the tiller handle assembly. I think I spent a whopping $25.00 to make this motor right. Today, I traded that Johnson 7.5hp straight across for a 1962 Evinrude fisherman 5.5, a newer Sea King (Chrysler) 7.5hp, in awesome condition and a 12' Aluminum Trailor Boat with a trailor. The little boat is in pretty nice condition too and is ready to hit the water.:D:D The 5.5hp just needs an impeller and a thermostat, plus it needs a gasket for the sediment bowl. I checked the ignition system out and found two brand new coils under the flywheel. WhooHoo!!:D:D

Who would have thought that one could end up with two motors and a boat, all because of a little JW-14? Just too funny.

There are those of us who think a JW Johnny is priceless.

You were obviously well paid for your skills and knowledge. I think I would have kept the JW. :)

stop now!!!, or you are gonna have to buy more land!!!

you took a few pieces of flat pieces of paper that used to fit in your wallet and turned them into 1/4 of a garage worth of "JUNK"..

I saw your neighbors at the hardware store buying HOUSE FOR SALE signs!!

ha ha ha

next year you will have two houseboats and a 45 foot yacht( not running yet!)...all from the seeds of those little pieces of paper that most people hand to the lottery agent and then go home and pout!!

ps if you have some more paper in your wallet I have a JW10 that was given to me a month ago!!!! hint huint hint

Well Bob, you must have esp. I just bought another piece of land this morning. LOL Just kidding:D:D I loved your reply here. It started my morning out with a chuckle.

JW-10 huh? Cool. The little Sea Mist Green version of what I had. Isn't that the first year of the JW's?

What's the price on that little jewel?:D

well if i sell it, Id have no idea who was getting the short end of the stick! ha ha

I was at a hunting and fishing show this past weekend and they have a booth for some antique outboard club of CT ( i think), they had a series of these green mist motors from ( i think 1954) maybe 6 in different HPs, and I told him i got one, and if hed be in my area he could have it and my buddies similar motor but just a little bigger...but he lives on the other side of the state..

so now i am thinking to use my green martian motor for barter of some kind.

dont know what I need yet.... everything I think I would need has to be more valuable than my offering!!!

I got a 1988 70 hp i am reassembling this summer, a 1988 48 special that will need to get woken up( needs a TNT motor for sure( side mount style)

Yea, my collection is growing again. Like you said, I may need to buy more land. A house boat wouldn't be a bad deal.:D Maybe I could take this aluminum boat and trade it for a cabin cruiser and then a house boat?:D
