Propeller 26 or 28 Pitch ?

Hi, I am in Mexico Cancun, and recently I bought a Cobalt 272 1994, with engine 454 originally - serial 4100144472 and a transmission Volvo Penta, which was broken and I changed for Bravo 3 with propella pitch 22.
Problem: AT Top Speed and with the trim light up the boat made 5200 RPM / 40 MPH , with pitch 22, I need to buy new propellers, But I am not sure to go to 26 or 28, I like 28, but I fried when the boat is with more of 6 passengers and strong sea, the boat can loose force and spend a lot of gasoline, in theory double propellers understand that represent each pitch 300 RPM, If I go to 28 I would leave at 4300 rpm, the original engine is 330 HP, and specifies that its RPM maximum would 4400 RPM, which seems perfect, But some friends said 26 is Better, I do not want to be out of the RPM Range , and lost Top speed. Here is very difficult to test with 26 or 28 propellers, the dealers do not have. I have to buy the correct pitch, please help me to make the correct choice.

Welcome to iboats. Man you have a ton of data. Only one real way to know the answer you seek. Go to a dealer that will loan you a prop for a couple of hours to be run on water with no hazards and swap props with you till you get what is right for you. Everything else is just .......................dust in the wind...................

Thanks Mark, for you reply and you welcome..., the problem is, the dealer said NOT have in stock the Bravo 3 propeller, only for a single propeller test.......for that reason I have to ask, and will buy from Ebay the best choice...thanks for you support.

Erik, what are the exact manufacturers recommended RPM range for your motor and what is the gear ratio for your outdrive. With that information I can come up with some numbers we can look at to see what pitch you really need. And will you take 2 pictures of the props that are on there right now.

Thanks for your questions, the RPM max, is 4400 , the outdrive is Bravo 3 , but i Do not what ratio is (Gear Ratio - Bravo Two (primary/optional/ 2.2/2.0, because this bravo 3 coming from a engine friend gifth 5.0L V-8 Models 4400-4800 rpm 220-240 HP my engine actually is 454 330Hp,volvo penta), I really have a BIG MIX of parts..... Now the propellers are the original OEM mercruiser bravo 3 pitch 22.........Any help are welcome.
