I have several question that I need answers. I have a 93 30 HP Johnson with tiller controls. The motor is pull start. I would like to add a stick steering and control box so I can drive the boat(15ft LOWE) from the front.
I purchased a simplex control box which accepts type 400 cables. I noticed that this particular box was used for pre 1979, but it looked just like the one my dad used to have on the boat so I bought it before doing any research. Will this box work?
The type 400 cables dont have the motor connection ends and I dont know what I need or where to find them. In addition to the connector there are brackets that hold the cables to the side the motor as well. I can remember what they look like but dont know what the parts are called and where to get them.
So basically at this point I have a motor,no cables and a pre 1979 control box. Please tell me what to get and where to get it from.
My next question refers to the stick steering. I want to remove the tiller and install a stick steering up front. What are all the parts needed for the connection to the motor. I know there is some sort of rod that goes thru that hole on the motor and then something that connects that shaft to a hole near where the tiller handle connects. Sorry I dont know the proper term for the holes but I'm sure you get what I'm talking about.
Then there is the kill switch issue. The motor has a kill switch on the tiller which doesnt work and i havent bothered to fix because of my plans to move the controls to the from of the boat. The throttle will go down enough to make the motor die when I need to kill it. Not he safest but I would like to address the issue so I have a way to kill the motor and a emergency kill so i dont run over myself if I fall out. Any Suggestions??
I would like to add an electric start as well if its a simple bolt on install. But I can deal with cranking the motor untill a later date.
