Throttle requires to much muscle

The 1989 Force 120 outboard on my 19 foot center console boat requires a lot of physical force to throttle up. The boat is configured with a quicksilver (PN 88688A26) console mounted binacle single lever control box. It is mounted on the vertical face of my center console. What are the things I need to do or check to make the throttle easier to operate?

Welcome.
You need to disconnect the cable, to determine if the problem is in the control unit, the cable, or the linkage on the motor.

Thank you Roscoe for the very logical suggestion. As soon as the snow melts away I'll get on it. Dave

Most controls have a throttle tension adjustment knob, may just need adjusting.
