Non use of email address in forum?

I have NEVER seen or heard of something like this! I have tried several times to click on someone's name and then select view profile, or private message and it won't do anything.....I've gone into my "User CP" and set up instant notification on new posts to my threads and nothing.....now I'm reminded that I can't put my personal email address into a reply to someone elses post. Are you kidding me? If I can't get a hold of someone or vice versa without just posting a reply in the forums, how am I supposed to discuss in further detail or share with them personal information? I have found NOTHING appealing about this site other than the fact that it's about boating.....I get better help from the local boat dealership and that isn't saying much!

Hey tubtoy, let me guess you are using Internet Explorer?

There is a problem with the site and IE8 that is known and supposedly they are looking into it. In the meantime you can use firefox and the quicklinks will work.

There is already a thread about this : http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=374357

2nd on firefox. Sorry you are having problems. I guess a chat is hanging around in the boathouse or shop, sipping a cup o joe talking about good fishing, hey? But along comes technology.... And we all get to figure it out.

Good luck, and sorry for your dislike of this terrible site. I hate it too, especially all the bad advise and poor information, spirited debates, great advise, helpful people giving pointers . Oh wait, that kinda is chatting...

FWIW :The non-use of private e-mail is to curb the spammers....PM works great to keep these trollers at bay ,and the other sites I belong to use the same system.

Re: Non use of email address in forum?

Our server is presently refusing a lot of "normal" services. . .more on IE than Firefox, but many on Firefox, too.

Hang in there. It will be fixed eventually. We mods are missing some services that you don't get as well as all that you miss.

The rule against no personal info in the forum is for your protection. Spammers, scammers and pfishers can't get it there. That is what Personal Messages are for.

Sorry you feel that way about the site. I use firefox and have no problems with anything. I also like the advise I have been given on boating topics and other spirited debates. I guess most of us here do. I personally think this is the best boating site on the web AND it has its own store that is as cheap as any other out there!!!

So why not take your 35 posts and head on out to another boating site ???

This is a free site and when others want to give of their time and experience I for one really appreciate it.

Geeez, so at the moment the site is having some technical issues . .. it's not like you are paying a subscription fee to use it.

Why not ask some questions over at thehulltruth.com. iboats is a friendly family oriented site. Go ask a question over at thehulltruth.com with the same attitude and see what kind of responses you get back :D

Re: Non use of email address in forum?

thanks for the help and understanding....I needed to vent and get some things ironed out! I have received some good advice amongst these forums, but enjoyment can only go so far when things don't work!

Give me a submarine with a leaky hydraulic system and I'll fix it......hook a computer to it and I'm lost!

Bare with me and I'll get the kinks ironed out myself.......

as far as "first impressions are lasting impressions" goes......I'm sure I've made the correct first impressions with my first few posts. If I'm going to be judged by how many posts I've made or by this one thread, then those that wish to judge me can go right ahead......

Thanks for the help with the rest and I hope that the couple of posts that I posted my email address into will be forgivin as I won't do that again!

LOL

Hey Tub Toy, you can exchange personal info with others her Via the PM function in Firefox it works just fine. Like everyone else has said its for your protection that your e-mail address isn't posted for the world to see. I personally am now friends with a lot of the good folks from here off this site. We e-mail each other, talk on the phone, facebook, heck we even visit and help each other in person

This site takes a little getting used to, but works well for most of us.

You should have been here a few years back, when they switched software.

By the way, you are supposed to add additional info and detail, HERE, so all can benefit.
That is what the forum is for.

PM's work well for keeping the forum clean and under control. The only problem is when someone doesn't have pm's enabled and they can't receive your message.

There is another thing you can do, not endorsing it, but some people do it.
Go into your public profile and put your email address there.
I have seen people put there address in as the name of their boat.

Try clicking on their avatar. It will bring you to their profile and you can send a PM......

Stick with it Tubtoy. You won't find a better place to be for all things boating.

Re: Non use of email address in forum?

Tubtoy, don't sweat it most won't hold it against you. Just a personal note about the E-Mail deal. If I were you I would not put my E-Mail address any where on here. Like has been said it is for you're protection, there are programs out there known as web crawler looking for that sort of thing. The next thing yah know you're in box is full of junk mail, kinda like the junk mail you get by the postman, just some on the PC might be carrying a virus.

PM works grate on fire fox, I have been using FF for a while now. I wasn't aware of the issue, so that should tell you something. If you need to you can exchange E-Mail info in you're PM.

I also believe this is a great site, lots of great people on here more than willing to help out with most any problem. I have also developed some friendships here.

And no you're post count has nothing to do with anything.

Good luck.
