Pretty common to just take it apart and replace components on those.

The coils will actually crack, points wear, condensers fail, or wire loose a connection.

You can still buy the entire package of components at a reasonable price through most sources. Even here at iboats.

There are two sets of coils, points and condensers mounted under the flywheel. You need to pull the flywheel to get to them. You'll need a harmonic balance puller to remove the flywheel and a torque wrench to properly torque the flywheel nut once you put it back together. A factory service manual would be a good investment if you plan on working on the motor yourself.

It may take some effort to remove that flywheel nut as it is torqued to 105ft.lbs. I just removed one from a '66 Lark and it took an impact wrench to free it. When putting it back on you need a way to keep the flywheel from turning. A strap wrench or nylon strap ratchet will work. I usually wrap the nylon ribbon around the flywheel and secure it to the boat or motor stand and ratchet it good and tight. Good luck!
