Mercury 1975 Thunderbolt 850 Exhaust Tube Seal Plate

Hi,

I just pulled the lower unit of my outboard to change out the impeller and discovered that the "exhaust tube seal support plate" is shattered. I do have the pieces and the actual seal looks pretty bad.

I asked my local dealer and she told me that part is no longer available. The part is number 39 and 40 on the following drawing.

Where should I find this part? Do I even need this? I found a place in Georgia that says they have the metal part mercurymarineparts.com

The part number of the broken plate is "38051" and that matches the 2nd number 40 on the diagram. I would like to get both the support plate and the seal because both are very worn.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I've got a few of those lower units in the shop. Never realized there was a plate below the rubber seal, however, if I have one I would be willing to send one your way. I'm pretty sure I've got a couple of the rubber seals as well. No promises but I'll check if your interested.
