Small trailer tire choices?

With warmer weather teasing me with little spurts here and there I'm getting the bug to start getting started prepping for spring boating. I was out getting my tire size so as to order a spare which I never seemed to get around to ordering last year. I'm noticing some weather cracks radially around my tires so I guess I'm looking at replacing both tires also instead of just getting a spare. My Landau poontoon trailer has 20.5x8x10 (load range D) tires on it. There doesn't appear to be too many choices of brands in this small size. My problem/question: I've found Carlisle of course (with two models) and Loadstar. Is this about the extent of coverage to expect? I've read thread after thread of the evils of Carlisle tires and admit to being a bit gunshy at this point. I've seen very little on Loadstar, which doesn't help much. I'm not trying to ignite another tire war thread  but just looking for some choices I might have missed that come in my size and where you can buy them. I probably tow 100-200 miles a year at this point and could tow more if I ever get this old 'toon in better shape! So I'm not a very avid traveler. Our closest favorite lake is only 20 miles away. At this point I would have to be thinking of going Carlisle, gunshy or not, just due to the lack of alternatives and their availability. Also one more thing. Has anyone ever had too hard of a time dismounting and then mounting this size? I'm an auto tech experienced with mounting odd tires for my mowers, tiller, and other oddities. I just might buy the tires and use my rims which at first glance appear in good shape. If not it will be the usual tire/wheel purchase. Does galv. last longer than white painted???...Oh the choices! Thanks for any help or insight given! Bring on spring! Can you tell I have cabin :(fever?

Re: Small trailer tire choices?

My resto boat came with LoadStar's bias ply's (Korea or Taiwan from what I remember) and during the 700 mile trip home they rode great. They are 2003 tires, so I was surprised they were in such good shape. During the 1 1/2 year rebuild they started to crack and on the first trip they had bad flat spots. I don't think this was a fault of the tires, but more along the lines of sitting too long in 1 spot and being way past their useful age. I'm looking for new tires right now and considering the LoadStars.

Re: Small trailer tire choices?

My Carlisle failures have been replaced with LoadStar tires. I have had no failures with them so I am very happy.

Re: Small trailer tire choices?

I have looked at those loadstars. Not a bad price at $50 each. I talked with a friend who works at a Goodyear store. He did not have much help on any tires but he has a machine to mount them. That might save me some effort swapping them over. I see some people complaining about the loadstar K550's chopping or cupping on some forums. The ones Eastern Marine has are K399's. I don't know if that's good or bad but I'd sure try them. Heck, the tires on the trailer when I bought it are Trail America's. They are not exactly name brands. I'd bet they are OEM's from approx. 2000 or 2001 when the trailer was built. Any new rubber will have to be an upgrade at this point!
