Pitot location?

Have a 1993 Maxum 1700 I picked up a year or so ago. Speedometer doesn't work so I investigated and it is not hooked up to any tubing and there is no pitot on the stern. I purchased a pitot kit with tubing from iboats.com (go it the next day! but that is another story!!) Where is the best location to mount the pitot on the stern? If there was one there I could just place it in the same location but it doesn't. Any suggestions? The hull is V in the middle but both sides flatten out.

Re: Pitot location?

Is there no tubing at all coming from the gauge? What drive is in the boat? Does it have the pinhole in the front of the lower for the speedo? I don't believe there's any critical spot to install the pickup. As long as it's in a place of little cavitation such as too close to the drive. Just make sure it's straight up and down.

Re: Pitot location?

Thanks Colin, this boat has an evinrude that is not stock for this boat. I suspect they removed the tubing perhaps when they changed the engine. I have looked at the back of the speedo and there is no tubing though I have found where it goes. Thanks for the rest of the advice! Brian
