i have a center console, with the tank under the console. install 2 tanks under seats. under the deck is going to create great drag.

Re: Under deck Tank

my premier with the PTX package has a 53 gallon tank below deck at the rear of the middle log. my trailer was probably just designed for a 2 logger but works fine. i like it in the middle. on my last boat, it was at the rear port section and caused a list when underway if it was over 1/2 full.

My boat has the 30 gal. tank in the motor pod at the rear of the boat. I've never seen one with a underdeck tank moved forward but it sounds like a interesting idea. I wouldn't want it moved too far forward because it might cause the front of the toons to plow thru the water and make it unsafe.

I think you'll have problems with the arrangement you are proposing. The tank will create drag at higher speeds and it may not fit on a scissor trailer.

Pontoons are designed to set stern low so that passengers up front will not cause the bow to be too low. Proper loading will solve most pontoon leveling problems.

Having said that, I had a 30' pontoon that I had enclosed the aft section. The added weight caused the stern to set lower than I wanted so I moved both batteries to the front. I never made any measurements, but I could tell no visable difference.

20 or 30 gallons of fuel amounts to much more weight transfer than a couple batteries. Besides, there is a lot more going on between the tubes than people realize so that tank will take an awful beating. Run over a log or any debris and you puncture that tank which results in loss of fuel, contamination of the waterway and if the authoritites get wind of the incident, you are subject to one heck of a fine and clean up expense. Bad idea all the way around.

How much venting is needed if one puts the tank under a seat? I've debated doing it, but was worried about venting.

Re: Under deck Tank

If you install a permanent mount tank in an enclosed space you still need to use the proper filler/vent assembly that allows filling the tank from the outside. If you stick a portable tank in an enclosed space you need lots of ventilation -- down low and up high.
