1966 Evinrude 18... too loud?

Anyone have any suggestions? Seems quite loud but maybe this is the way they are? Should I check anything or put foam? Thanks

2 stroke outboards are traditionally not quiet !!! Get some ear plugs.

On a serious note, i'm sure you've heard other outboards , does the exhaust sound like it's above water?

hmm, yeah, it sounds like maybe the exhaust is above the water. Although the motor is at a good height on the transom.

Next time you have it out pull the cover and check for an exhaust leak.

thanks. It's out now, where do I look for the exhaust leak? Don't know these engines at all..

When did they change to through hub exhausts, in the seventies wasn't it. the older motors had the exhaust above water and made a far racket because of it.
