I am in the market for a new jon boat. I now have a 1236 but want a wider model. Is there a wider model 12', either 40" or 48" or do I need to go with a 14'?

Welcome to iboats.

I think you will need to go to a 14.
If you look around, I think some manufacturers off a 14 with a higher side as well, or at least they used to.

Thanks.

I feel that I need a wider boat, 40-48, because I want to modify it and contruct a casting deck for my Jon Boat. Any good resources out there to instruct me on these things.

Re: 12' v. 14'

Years ago I had a 12' Lowe brand "Lake John". Much different than a regular John in that it was wide as you seek and sides were much higher. I wanted the 112' because I had a topper on my p/u truck and built a rack on top of the topper. I could launch and load the boat alone. Very safe boat.
