Hi, I have a 7.4L with BIII drive - the manifolds bolts are gone (rust) - I'm trying to remove and replace the manifolds and risers without pulling the engine.

Here is my question - can I pull the heads with the manifolds attached?

Thanks for your help.

Ayuh,... Not really,... You need to get behind 'em to get at the headbolts....

Just take a BFHammer to 'em,... They'll break up pretty easily, once you get 'em Cracked...

Re: Trouble with Manifold 7.4L

I have actually removed most of the manifold with a plasma cutter - but still can't get to the actual bolt heads or what is left due to the position of the engine in the engine bay. At this point I can remove the valve covers and head bolts.

So is there any reason, I can't remove the heads to contuine with the process - I do understand that I'll be replaceing head gaskets -

Thanks

Re: Trouble with Manifold 7.4L

I've done a couple of them, and I pulled the engine and used a torch to cut the heads of the bolts/nuts then used new studs or bolts.
There was no way I would head into a bilge with a torch to do that kind of work with a gas tank, fuel lines, filter etc. that close to the front of the motor.
