Don't even know the brand of ours as there is no name on it. (just checked)
It works well with the jug about half full and pouring at a "medium" speed. Anything else and it is over the sink like the others.
We always buy the cheapest one that we can find when we need one. Have not found any difference when we bought an expensive one once. It also broke in a shorter time than the cheap ones !!!

For most, the lid is the problem. I have pretty good luck when I pour with the lid up.

I too use a french press. WAY better coffee, it is like $20 at walmart for one, no spillage, a whole press of coffee is ready in 2 min. I love mine and will never go back to a coffee machine.

I like those too although cleaning the grinds out is a PITA. That, and once the old lady found out that the French press raises cholesterol, then that put the kibosh on that and it was back to spillin' and wipin'.

I believe messin with these coffie makers can be a waste of time. If you want good coffie I learned its in using fresh beans you grind yourself , Use and expresso machine and add water to the exspresso for a real cup of coffie. No more using the old dried out coffie you get in a bag already ground up. That stuff is always old and taste like it. A good expresso machine cost no more than a regular one,

Forget the Americana way. I don't even bother mixing with water, I just pour a double shot in a small cup.

Overall the French Press is by far the best way to make coffee. It doesn't get any better than that.

The last one I got was the cheapest Walmart model and it pours nice, but it won't keep the pot hot enough.

Thought I might give Mr Coffee another go, but not now.

!930s - vintage Arcade Mfg. Co. wall-mount coffee grinder (American manufacturing at its apex) + a three section drip grinder + lake water = consistantly great coffee.

I use a Black & Decker with square-lipped carafe. It works GREAT with no spillage.

This happens to be the POS we have at the moment and was the inspiration to put this up in the first place......:D

A friend gave us one from Gevalia. Works great, did not really like the coffee (Gevalia brand- We like Cafe Britt -Thank You Costa Rica:D) but the carafe is great.
Stays hot, shuts down by itself. turns on in the AM when programmed to...No spills when pouring a cup , but the filling thingy on the top has to be filled slower than just dumping water in or it will splash a bit over the back of the unit.

We use a Black & Decker with a stainless steel pot , Has the pour while brewing feature that really works , pot is unbreakable and pours drip free. Had it for about 2 years now and love it . HOT coffee in 5 min for 10 cups !
Got it at Wal Mart for like 30 bucks .

the problem with all is design , the handle needs rotated or offset from pour spout as most of us pour sideways a little, if you were poring face on and to one side yo would not spill, but in front our arms dont work that way.

mine has a stainless carafe that seems to do ok. if it does spill it's just a couple drips of coffee..

No way! Works just fine for me. Maybe it's operator error? :D

Well look at you. :p Great choice if I do say so myself.

I love mine but for everyday use I have a Cuisinart Grind and Brew station. The pot is not a problem. We buy imported coffee beans and love the taste of fresh ground. If any of you decide to do this please note that burr grinders are the best.

Re: Are all Coffee Makers Junk??

Ive got an old Krups (13 yrs old, no digital timer, just off/on button) with a wire mesh filter that works perfectly! I had a B&D coffee maker and toaster, bought at same time, and they both died 3-4 yrs later, same week!!! So I went back to the Krups, and I have to plug in in manually every a.m. :)

I too have a B&D pot that you brew in the morning and it stays hot for about 3 hrs. Works like a thermos you can pack it out to the shop with you. The first time I used it I had a spill on the counter. @@@******%% B&D should have stuck to making cheap power tools. So I became a over the sink guy. One day I was pouring the last cup still a few ounces left. ( I know, I'll take the top off ) @@###&&%%% missed the whole damn cup !!

Most any mass produced product since the 50's is cr*p. It's just varying degrees of crappiness.

I'll post a pic of our 50's Waring blender that could frappe concrete. Weights 10+ pounds but is still good as new.

I got a Koeruig ? for christmas, it is a single cup maker and it is wonderful. I only drink the tea out of it but a couple of guys will make a cup of coffee from time to time. It is a well made product, like something out of the 50's. It makes one cup at a time so it is perfect for work for me. they do make a bigger one that a friend bought and he loves it.
