All right, the Key West. OK, where is the AV plate (plate right above the prop) in relation to the bottom when the plate is parallel to the bottom? It should be up above the bottom about an inch or maybe a little more with that prop. Assuming the prop is in good shape. A 19 should be right in the ballpark with that combo.
AV plate looks correct, just over an inch high. Motor runs great, at wot it didnt feel like it was lugging ,missing or holding back just thats all it would turn. Normally I never run it that hard but had a chance to open her up. Can I have my ss prop depitched?
My 88 spl seemed to be running strong but when I checked spark they were not as strong as some said they should be. Also one cylinder seemed to cut out at idle for a split second once in a while. I ruled out a coil problem and finally got a new (used 2002) power pack. I gained 300 rpm's at idle and the miss is gone. Have not run on the water but I suspect I'll gain a little top end to. I thought mine ran strong at the top end also. Just a thought. Not saying to go out and buy a PP, just do some checking to make sure the motor is running perfect before doing to much prop work.
Just got back and the motor ran up to 5700 trimmed out as much as I could until boat started porposing. Idle in gear was smooth and about 1100 so that was lowered to 950. Below that and she seemed to want to couch and be a little rough. At 950 she will idle all day and drop to 750 in gear and run smooth. Very happy with the set up now.
Awesome, gives you a good feeling to fix it right by yourself. I'm going to check fuel line for excessive restriction when I get a chance. Do not think that is the problem but hate to repair by replacement. Headed to Key West this coming week ( the island) for the fights Sat and plan on taking prop to have checked by a cronie ( hub failure, pitch, etc). He said he could probably hook me up with something To get me right.
