I tought I put some picture and tell my experience about a small 4,3 m long polyester boat restoration. I was encouraged by this forum to start this work. It took me two months to repair. (01.2010-02.2010) (weekends and evenings) This is a Hungarian boat Built in 1965 They say that the original form was an Italian Vega boat. The name Parti comes from the famous Hungarian kayak champion Janos Parti, after racing he had a boat factory. This boat was built in his factory. I think they built about 50-100 pc. In Hungary I find at least 10 others for sale these days.
I wanted a full renewal, because it was neglected for years.
I Sanded all the painting and gel-coats, changed the whole floor, made new flooring-(air chambers) with two opening lid in order to get the water from air chambers if it goes into somehow. After all I re-gel coated the boat and for the shine I painted once.

So here I'am, first some picture about the original condition, last summer. But this autumn she sank when a stone cut her bottom.(second picture)
This is a work-boat for kayak training. I thougt I repair it, because it was in a very bad condition, and I like boats.

First I sanded all paintings and gel coats inside and outside, and cut the old flooring out.

I wanted to change the floor, so I cut off all the erlier flooring in order to make a new one. The original floor was for car-like seats, so it was different levels. I wanted to make a one level floor. (a picture from another boat about seats just to understand the different seats)
I made higher seats because it is a coach boat,

For the flooring first I thought I make an open flooring, filled with polystirol foam (used in house basement waterproof foam) But later I rejected this method. (first it was a good idea, but I changed my mind)

Thanks, she is going to serve still as a kayak coach boat, four hours every day.

For second time I decided to make a new floor. First I had to make new stringers, because originally there wasn't any. The new stringers are from 10mm PVC foam covered by glass mat and resin 2 layers.
The flooring is made of 10 mm PVC foam sandwich construction. I put 2 layers of glass mat each side.

After all I put a non-skid layer, and gel coated the floor. I cut two larg hole in the front and the end of the air chamber, to make two open lid (to be able to dry the air chambers during winter storage )

At the end of the work I equipped some important parts, new seatings two (pine wood board) navigation light (only one white lamp) and a manual bilge pump.
On the top of the bow I put a new horn and some mahagoni to decorate the boat.
(You can see the transparent lid on the air-chamber)

You did a very nice job. It looks great. It's nice to see some international flavor added to the forum.
