Im Having Problems With Getting My Johnson 15hp To Run Good.i Changed Out Powerhead To An 82 Because Old One Was Shot Now I Cant Get It To Run Right, I Have To Keep Squeezing Bulb To Keep It Running And Also It Has A Slow Rev And Wont Rev Up In Neutral.it Sounds Like A Slight Sputter Also. I Know It Needs A Fuel Pump To Take Care Of The One Problem. Pumps Great Water, New Coils, newer Powerpack. And Also Good Even Compression. Powerhead Was A 82,9.9 That I Used

You need to get the pump problem solved, sounds like it will resolve the rest. They will only rev so far in neutral cause of the shift lockout. Did you add the shims to the reed plate or swap the reed plate from your other motor?

The Motor Already Had All The Exact Same Parts. I Should Just Swap Them Out Anyways .had Both Of Them Set Next To Eachother And They Are Identical

So you just swapped powerhead for powerhead without actually hearing it run? Was the pump off the old motor or the new one? What was the compression of the new powerhead? Lots of variables.

pump was off the old motor.i bought complete powerhead minus electronics flywheel and carb.took off intake and was going to swap it until i saw they were the same from what i saw.compression is 95 plus-ish on each. couldnt get a perfect reading because my hose has a leak but i know they were both the same.

OK Compression is good. You would have seen the same pump symptoms on the old motor you'd think? Do the pump and report back and go from there. The 77 15 didn't have the reed plate shims so swapping would make no difference unless you have a bad reed. You could pull the intake and inspect since it's an unknown. Pump up the carb with the bulb, pull the tube from the carb and put into a gas can and observe the fuel flow.

Well heck, if you know it needs a pump do that first and go form there.
