1984 Volvo Penta 2.3 carb problems HELP

I have a 1984 sunbird with a 140hp 2.3 volvo IO. It has a single soledex not sure on spelling. It will only run when we hold the float down with something. if we push it all the way down it dumps a ton of gas. and as we decrese it delivers less gas. we had the boat running for over 10 mins doing this and ran great through all rpms. any ideas would be very helpfull thanks. you can email or just re post.

What is the model number of your engine, it should start with AQ

It runs GREAT when we hold that float down. I dont have much info on the motor. I was told buy the guy i got it from its a 140hp its a 2.3 im sure its something simple we just cant figure it out. it has a needle valve that the float rests on if that helps at all

Ayuh,... Buy a Carb Rebuild Kit for it,+ Rebuild it...
It's AFU,+ Needs it...

AQ130c looks just like the carb on it. im looking at the volvo parts on line. 834527 is the carb nimber 955892 is the volvo penta number.http://www.volvopentastore.com/Carb...*****.837412522--store_id.366--view_id.317209. thats the page i was looking at it and it all is the same.

How hard is it 2 rebuild the carb? Im pretty good with my hands ive just never done it b4. Every thing else seems 2 work great execpt that little problem with the float. is there any thing else i can do besides rebuildin it?

How hard is it 2 rebuild the carb?

Carbs are not terribly difficult, but you need to be precise in the cleaning, etc. Take your time and make plenty of notes - take pictures even, as you go along. Most of the rebuild kits will even have some simplified instructions.

Do you also agree there is nothing else i can do? Rebuild is what has 2 be done? the carb is clean as a wistle it was done about 14 months ago n boat was only ran a few times. it just has something 2 do with the float or that neddle valve.

Ayuh,... In Rebuildin', the Float will be Meassured,+ Set to Spec...
And,...
The Needle,+ Seat will be Replaced...

Usually with a rather short Inch-Stick...

The Carb Rebuild Kit will have the instructions,+ in them are the Specs...
And,...
You're gonna Need the Gaskets to do it Right...

Here's the link to the OEM manual. You have a 230, not a 131.
