Re: is this gel coat gone? help to make this better

Thanks.
ok so another thing is i will be storing the boat in the water for the most part of the season. is there anything i need to do interms of antifouling paint or give it a special bottom coat of paint. what is your advice on that since here lake ontario is big time poluted and dirty water is common. that why in two months of keeping it there last year got me those brown and green marks every where

If that's all the staining or gunk you got on the hull after extended soaking then you are very lucky, that looks great. Anti fouling paint can be a little regional, the local shops can tell you what will work best in that lake. But like I said, if that's as bad as it gets, don't put anything on it.

Hull paints for long term mooring are different than topside paints and cost more, check the websites of marine paint suppliers for details.

I had one other question after looking at your pictures again. Is the black graphic line gelcoat or is it a sticker or paint?

Right above the white part, its black and silver sticker strip then there is more black and that is paint/gelcoat which is fading as u see its not sharp black

Hey imraan47,
Yep, That looks like it's the little brother to mine.
Just one more thing too. That black stripe and graphics aren't painted on either, at least mine wasn't. It's actually a vinyl wrap. Can remove it with a heat gun and plastic scrapper. I thought mine was painted until I really looked close and well it's vinyl.
I'm changing the color scheme and that makes it easier. I even found several places that can replace it if I choose to go that way.
Thanks for the pic's.
Have fun and good luck.

wondering what you are thinking slasmith1

I'm thinking that once he removes the black sticker/vinyl he will find that the cracks are in the gelcaot under it also.

This fact will return him to the question of what level of delamination and water intrusion caused this. That is alot more damage than just a paint job IMHO.

Actually, I just wanted to see his boat since it's a smaller version of mine. We seem to have the only two Glassstreams on here.
The cracks may go up into the black but the same fix will be in order.
He should be able to see if the cracks extends up under the black now, to a point.
Keep it rolling.

Ok so when i get to the boat next...i will try and peel some areas and see what that is. if it really just is a sticker then i can remove that completely and i can put a nicer one there.
i will post here to let you know..maybe a picture too.

sucks that we are the only ones left on this forum i guess...

Actually there is one other but it is a Bass Boat. I don't think it is a bad thing. It's just the way of life.
I enjoy bringing mine back from the grave and already looking for the next.
Don't tell my wife. :p:D
