Re: '71 Starcraft '16 SS Rebuild

Been a real hectic couple of weeks with work and my daughter's friend deciding to take out a telephone pole with his just out of the body shop 88 IROC. They are both okay, just cat scans and my daughter got some staples in her noggin. But I was able to get some work done. The hull is now primered and sanded down awaiting topcoat. The trailer has been primered and sprayed with good old Rustoleum, Gloss Smoke Gray. First time I have used a compressor to spray since high school, didnt turn out too bad. I think I now have all my parts in to finish, just need to find the time to get em on. Will be out of town beginning tomorrow until Wednesday, off Thursday will grind on her hard then. Ended up rebuilding the entire trailer as the more i took off the worse it got. Here are some pics.

Okay really got crankin this past weekend. Two coats of white Easpoxy on the hull and today the first coat of Bikini Blue. EZ you sure were right about the runs! The blue went down just like you said though and didn't even have to tip it. The bubbles smooth right out and it looks great! Also got the dash boards and bow board finished as well with the final coats of Spar varnish on them. One nore coat of blue tomorrow ad two days to dry and I will put her back on the trailer to begin the inside, Woo Hoo! Also finished the trailer this past weekend, new springs, hubs, LED lights, wiring, rollers, bow stop, jack and winch. I will take pics of it when my new tires and rims get here. Here are a few pics of the most recent work.

Thanks, EZ. The paint really worried me at first. I will never use the Easypoxy Undercoat again as it does not behave like the topcoat does at all. Way too thick and hard to lay out smooth. I hope you don't mind the colors, I tried to go a shade lighter than yours as my daughter and I are huge Carolina fans, LOL.

Got the second and final coat of Bikini Blue on tonight. All the tape is off now and just waiting a couple of days to dry. Furnace has been running full bore in the garage the last couple of days to keep it 65 degrees, cold and rainy here. Planning on flipping her over on Friday after work and putting her back on the trailer. Now that the turtle stage is over I can get crackin on the noodles and flooring.

Awesome job on the paint! Looks really good!

How much of the Easypoxy did you use? I'm trying to get a feel for how much to order for mine.

The White took one and a half quarts. The Bikini Blue took a 1/2 quart. I will use the rest of the blue on the topside and interior. Put it on real thin as it will run like crazy if you don't, but it lays down real smooth. I didn't even have to tip the blue on the sides.

Two coats each color. I also have a light coat of zinc chromate as a base, three light coats sanded primer and two coats of Easypoxy white undercoat. I will never use the undercoat again as it really does not flow well, lots of sanding!

Re: '71 Starcraft '16 SS Rebuild

I love it! Bikini Blue is exactly what I have been looking at to paint my little boat. You mentioned that you did not have to "tip it". Does this mean you used a roller for the top coat? If so, what type of roller did you use? You also said you would never use the undercoat again. Do you or does anyone else herre know what kind of primer/surfacer would be compatable with easypoxy topcoat?
Thanks!
