Hello Boaters,

I am experiencing information overload; can someone please help?

I own a 2001 Nitro NX750 bass boat. Having bought it used, the carpet was nasty and I got a wild hair this weekend and tore it all out. I want to go with anything but carpet. A friend suggested LineX but the dealer wanted $1000 which is crazy!!

What is the best product to use that I can apply myself. My baby is garage kept so being out in the elements is not a problem. The surfaces are either aluminum (hatch covers) or fiberglass (boat top) so it must adhere to both.

What have you do it yourself ers used with any success?

Thanks

I have done some research, Cabelas sells a rubber/vinyl material, it has dots all over it. It is what i am going to use because it washes easy, is easy to apply and is not very much $$$.

Hey there!...I'm new to this boat stuff too...I have my first new boat and it is a bass boat by Nissan...my carpet was also torn out and loaded with lots of dirt and deteriorated beyond cleaning...and like you I have done the research for a replacement too...when redoing a fishing boat you need to think safety and having a good foot hold is important...I did like the luxury that carpet offered but did not want the hassle of keeping a new install clean, so I decided on choosing a good quality surface that will last longer then any carpet money can buy...I chose to go with a product that is very similar to Rhino lining but comes in many more colors and YOU can do it yourself!

Grizzly grip seems to be the most logical answer to carpet replacement when it comes to boats...I have not personally used this product yet but will be doing so very soon, still replacing my deck at this time...this stuff can be applied with a roller and a brush!...I hope to see pictures of your boat cuz I would like to see what you ended up doing to replace the carpet.

looks like a great idea, that grizzly grip stuff or any other roll on bedliner material. Some I believe are more flexible, softer then others, and as mentioned before, there are many available colors. If I had to replace my interior again, I'd have gone this route. All the scraping to remove old carpet glue, then the time consuming fitting and cutting of new carpet, it really was way more work then it was worth. Plus, I wish I didnt have to worry so much about a spilled coke or a stuck hook in the carpet! Post pics when she's done!

Welcome to iboats!

Look up Durabak. Quite a few people have used it here with good results.

Thanks Nissan I am going to check this stuff out. I understand what you mean about carpet. I have this fishing buddy who dosent think its a problem to pull up the anchor and let the mud spill all over the deck! Now I can give him a rag right?

A rag? how about a shop vac! LOL...without carpet any water will evaporate much quicker...having old lake water smell in your boat will be a thing of the past...there are dozens of other products on the market to replace carpet...you just need to figure out which one will work for you...I am hoping to see some pics when you're done.
