I purchased a ranger bass boat and thru the course of 2 years restored it, to include all new gauges etc. following the wiring diagram with the gauge and double checking in the motor manual, wired it in. with the key off the trim gauge sits at nose down position with key on or running the gauge slips below the bow down position and stays there regardless of motor position. I have not removed the sending unit as yet but is there a way to clock or calibrate the sending unit or the gauge? The gauge is a tempo made for the johnson/ Evinrude sender.

The 1984 sending unit should test between 82 and 88 ohms at full trim position. When in the fully tilted down position the sender should test between 0 and 10 ohms.

The sender has to match the gauge.

The gauge and sender work only within the trim range - about 15 degrees.

Thanks, tested it and found it to be virtually non functioning; occasionally it would read about 40 or so but manipulating the lever had no effect. Guess I call Evinrude.

You will find the new sender has some adjustment when installing. The slots on the sender permit some range of adjustment when mounted on the engine. You will want to adjust the new sender mounting so that your dash gauge reads the way you want it.
