Instructional Videos?

This may not be the best place for this thread, but I was wondering about thoughts of creating a video library?

I haven't been here a year yet, but I'm seeing the same questions come up that many guys here have seen annually for 10 years.

I don't think these redundant questions should be shunned as they provide more of a purpose than just Q&A. (social aspect)

There are the stickies which are great, how about a video section? iboats could create an account on youtube and iboats members can videos of common boat issues...ie, how to winterize, summerize, change oil, change gimbal bearing, baffles....etc. Also boating techniques like, docking, trailering, setting trim etc. There are lots of motors and boats out there so this video library could be extensive.

Here is an iboats advertising opportunity on youtube and I think it would be great to say to someone who wants to winterize for the first time, "check out manual #7 in the stickies and this 10 minute iboats.com sponsored youtube video."

Thoughts?

Re: Instructional Videos?

I think you have a great idea. There seem to be only a handful of actually GOOD instructional DIY videos out there. I'm sure the other mods would agree and would have no problem adding them to the existing stickies.

As for this part:

I would suggest you contact Tanner Williams about it. I think those may be the types of projects iboats is looking to start and would be a great way to tie together the store, forum, and facebook.

While this may appear to be great idea, it does require that someone actually "establish and maintain" this library. The next issue is that people would actually have to SEARCH the library for the topics they want and the videos that do get posted would need to be verified by someone as to accuracy. We certainly don't want to post what may appear to be valid information or processes and have someone damage eqjuipment or have an accident as the result of faulty info that would appear to be sanctioned by iBoats. (There is that darned legal side of me showing through again.) People can search now and either don't know how or don't want to and would rather someone else do the work for them. Most searches I've done for people takes about 20 - 30 seconds to retrieve what they need. I'm older than dirt and have no problem doing this. Folks a heck of lot younger than me should also have no problem but apparently they feel it is easier to ask the question and let someone else post a link or the actual answer for them. If you poke around the various forums you will find the same questions get answered over and over and over. Sort of annoying but like I said, I'm older than dirt and old people can get cranky. :)
