Re: Problem Turning Engine

At least you had some good news and the power head and lower unit is OK.
I believe the bushing helps keep the shaft centered to keep the strain off of the pump and seals, probably will run without it but they put them in there for a reason.

Hopefully you got a title on the motor when you bought it and that should give you the serial #. Hot motors usually do not have the tags still on.

Well I said that and now I can not find the title to my C40 I found the 35 Johnson but the only thing I found on the Yamaha is the paper worksaying I paid the fees. I found the title for the boat but not the Yamaha motor.

Is there a motor title in the state of Texas still?

Re: Problem Turning Engine

Yes.. I am relieved to say the least.

Yes.. in Texas we have titles on boats and engines if an outboard.. and yes.. mine is legal.. haha

Anyway, thanks for all the help. We all did learn something. I knew it couldnt be the engine, but, was scared all the same!!!!

Will let everyone know what happened when completing the job because the area around the bushing has a lot of corrosion.

Thanks to all who responded to my thread!

Re: Problem Turning Engine

to remove the bushing, the easy way.
use a pair of side cutters, grasp the lockring and twist it out, that ring is cheap and your gonna destroy it anyway.
next use a chiesel or a long punch and shatter the bronze bushing materiel.
grap the remaining rubber with pliers and withdraw it.
clean both the bushing pocket and the retaining ring groove .
use a socket and an extension and drive the new bushing in place.
glycerin or dishwashing liquid make good lubricants that wont affect rubber.
now would be a good time to replace the water pump assy and inspect the drive shaft seals.
you would almost think I have seen this, once.
