I just thought I would post this pic of the perch I caught when Dave Jr and I went fishing this past week. It sure was nice getting out on the water after all the months of being cooped up due to the cold and snow. It was a beautiful day. 72 degrees no wind until early afternoon. Only the one fish was caught but the trip was mostly a scouting trip of a new fishing hole (Shawnee Mac lakes in Salem MO). Hope you enjoy the pic. I know he's a little-un but he was a great moral booster and preview of coming attractions . God Bless. Dave

Dave, nice first fish of the year and getting out on the water. We went out fishing and the lake was down maybe 12ft. and stumps and logs floating all over the place from the rain tried to be careful but busted the transduer off on a piece of floating wood. No fish but still nice to get out plus wife let me get a new better depth finder for the boat hopefully going out to try again this coming weekend....

I hear ya. Going out on the mighty Niagara this morning for the first time ...Battery charged ,plug in etc. I think you have a Blue gill my friend. Ya hoooooo

Um, I do believe that is a blue gill, not a perch. Not being picky or anything.

Yep its a bluegill. Around here most folks refer to bluegill as perch. I think its more of a local thing. It is really kind of funny. If most folks around here catch a bunch of average size blues then they caught a mess of "perch" but if they nail a biggie it is then a bluegill LOL. Sunfish, both Long ear and Green make up the majority of what locals call "perch" around here.

It's like here in Ont. I am forever reminding people that a pickerel is properly called a Walleye. Pickerel is referred to a small pike or grass pike. BTW it to 5 mins to start the old motor but ran great all day. Small ice burgs in river but not many, just alot of floating debris.

Blugill...perch...we're talking semantics. it's all good in the pan.

still waiting here for ice out in the Chicago area. Most lakes should be open in a week or two. Can't wait.

BTW, nice fish...the first of the season is always nice.

Mars Bar, did you get out on the river the other day? Upper or Lower? I'm hoping to go in the next few weeks.
