Had an awful job to undo the hinge pins,
so when they go back in is it ok to use copperslip or a similar anti sieze compound?

and is there a knack or easier way to get the shift cable outer in to the small and of the bellows? I am struggling with it!
cheers guys

DO NOT MIX ANYTHING WITH COPPER IN IT on a marine application.
I use grease and havent had an issue, manual says loc-tite so..........
WD ,engine store, etc the boot and brass end , hold boot tip with a rag and just push.Once started lube the sheath going in

The pins are supposed to be locked in, exactly opposite of what you seem to want to do. And, as BTDoctor said, don't mix copper with aluminum. You'll create your own little battery! Clean everything and locktite it back. You don't want it working loose on the water.

Re: hinge pins stuck/ shift cable bellows

ok I understand, thanks for the info
,I guess I have to resighn myself to the fact that I have to do battle with the hinge pins every 3 years,
I managed to shear the hinge pin tool this time and had to buy another, is there a guide as to how hot or how much heat would ease the removal of the pins? regards

They are usually put in with RED Loctite. The tough stuff.
So you will need a long breaker bar.

It seems that many, if not most, of the merc mechanics use a 1/2" allen wrench instead of the official hinge pin tool.
