old gas vs old oil in mix question

Good day.
By curiosity I would like to know if the 2 cycle oil withing an old gas/oil mix deteriorates as time goes by as gas does. So if gasoline rots or goes bad with time ... is it the same with the oil within the mix ? Or does the oil retains it's lubrification capacity ?

At this time I have a tank with 2 gal gas in it that will be 3 to 4 months old by the time I use it and I have already poured in a pint of oil in the tank which means I only need to add 4 gal of gas for a perfect 50:1 mix ... which explains why I question how oil ages in comparison to gas.

Oil does not deteriorate.

the oil does not age, but 2 gallons of bad gas, adding 4 gallons of good gas, make 6 gallons of bad gas.

I was under the impression from what I read on this board that 3 months old gas was still ok if kept within an air tight tank ?? Already has the gas winterising Stabil additive in it ...

Do I read you would not use those 2 gallons ?

I think Tash said what he said with "tongue in cheek". Adding fresh gas to older gas means you have "fresher gas" than you had before but it is still not as fresh as a day old mixture. By the way, 4 month old gas is not old gas. My pontoon has been layed up for the winter since November as have all my boats over many decades. The fuel in the tank has been stabilized and the engine will run just fine next month when it comes out of hiding for its spring clean up and make ready. Add fresh gas and go boating. But if you are not in the habit of using fuel stabilizers like Sea Foam or Stabil, it is strongly suggested you pick up that habit.

no, gas doesn't go "bad" in 3 months and the oil doesn't seprate out.

The last time I was out was Thanksgiving, I am going out this weekend and also have 2 gallons of 'old" gas, I am just going to add 2-3 more gallons of fresh and everything will be fine just like it is every other year.

The problem comes when you don't drain your carberators, the jets get varnish build up and the engine doesn't run well so worst case you have to clean your carbs.

I strongly sugest you get some muffs and run your engine in the driveway before heading out the first time, at least then you know it runs but you are fine on the gas.

As previously stated, 4 months does not make gas old!
